What Questions to Ask When Making an Organizational Shift

Leaders must be intentional when making an organizational shift - whether that’s reorganization, merger, or changing norms or culture.

Whatever the shift, The Five Key Enablers framework helps leaders think of the change levers.

The few questions we apply when we want to make a strategic organizational shift:

How does this align with our purpose?

Who would benefit from this change and how?

Can we articulate the connection between our purpose, vision, and this shift? (If not, consider abandoning it)

Having addressed purpose and strategy, we must identify what changes are needed in each of the Key Enablers of Change to move from intent to successful implementation.

The Five Key Enablers

Knowledge & Skills: What are the skills or information we need to make this change?

Systems: What are the systems, processes, or structures we need to change to get there or that impede the changes we need?

Intrapersonal: What development opportunities or needs might this change present for employees? What strengths will be key to success?

Interpersonal: How will people need to change the way they interact?
